Saturday Night Romance, Boatbuilder Style

It's 2100 on a Saturday night. Where is your boatbuilder/repair guy?

It's a beautiful Saturday night at that. One of the last few of the summer. We spent much of the day on R's boat working, a rarity, but good. The water tanks have new inspection ports, an issue that's been waiting for awhile. Then back to the shop for R to work on a plug-for-a-mold. Then back to the marina to catch his parents as they docked. Then back to the shop for the plug. Then back to the marina to switch out a fuel filter on friend/customer S' boat.

(I picked up the filter earlier today while out doing errands. Many women pick up fuel filters. It's on our to-do list, right after "hair appointment" and "tea with the girls.)

So... at 2100, R has determined that whoever installed the previous fuel filter deserves a good lecture on not whaling away on filters when installing them. I've seen 3 of those wrap wrench doo-dads (we had to go get one from a shop, even tried buying a different one), and then I saw R take Drastic Measures. When Drastic Measures didn't work.... he decided parts would be removed en masse and taken to the shop where they will be Dealt With. Tonight.

He is doing The Removing part now. He had loaded me and The Kids in the truck and left my vehicle at the shop so that we could just go straight home to the parents' after the supposedly easy filter swap. But it appears that we will be going back to the shop, and he will be Conquering the fuel filter problem. And I and The Kids will drive ourselves home. And, since fuel systems don't always like to bleed themselves easily, I may have to drop The Kids and come back to assist.

It's sprinkling and breezy out, so I'll grab my heavier coat, a small flashlight and book and plan to snuggle under the bimini in a corner of the cockpit till he's ready to bleed. The fuel system that is. Whatever other gashes may cause bleeding on the way, well, that's just par for the course with boats.

And that is romance on a Saturday night.
